South Africa is rich in its wildlife and safaris, and that includes whale and dolphin watching. This has become increasingly popular in South Africa, this is because the whales and dolphins migrate and this is part of their migration route. The African waters are warm in the months of May to June and this is through November to December. Whales and dolphins come here to give birth and mate along the African waters. It is in Cape Town and in Hermanus that it is best to see the whales from ashore, yet if you want to get closer to them you can get into a boat. You can also do this in Cape Town and Hermanus and also in Plettenberg Bay and Gansbaai.

The whales and the dolphins that you will likely to see in South Africa when you are whale and dolphin-watching are the: Humpback whales, Brydes whale, Dusky dolphins and the Bottlenose dolphins.

The Humpback whales, you will likely to see them mating and giving birth in the warm waters of Mozambique and will pass South Africa for their northern migration, on the months of May and June and will also see them return in the months of October and November.

The Brydes whale, they are rare in other parts of South Africa yet you will be able to see them in West Coast and Port Elizabeth. You will also find the orcas and sperm whales.

The Dusky dolphins are seen in Cape Town and West Coast. However, the Bottlenose dolphins are very common in South Africa and can be seen from ashore.
